Blogger Commenting Basics

Most of you already know the ins and outs of commenting on blogger but there are a lot of new bloggers out there who I thought might find this helpful.

When I first started blogging I would get comments on posts and respond with a comment underneath theirs. Thinking that maybe it ran in a thread form that would alert earlier commentors to new comments like on facebook. I quickly realized that it didn't work this way though and learned how to respond to comments directly from my email.

However sometimes I get this:

Getting a No-Reply email address makes responding to comments much more difficult. I could leave my response on their blog but I feel really weird talking about my blog in someone else's comments section. I could respond in a comment below theirs but like I said, they won't receive notification of my response. Usually this is what I have to do though and just hope that they come back and check the page.

Responding back and forth is one of the best ways to build relationships. So please, help me out here and come out of hiding! It's easy I promise! I will also show you how to do it without jepordizing your security.

Go to 'Edit Profile'.

Check the 'Show my email address' box. Then scroll down a bit and enter the email address that you would like it to go to.

If you are worried about your main email address getting spammed, you can create an email address just for commenting. By creating a different email address you can also choose whether or not to include your last name in your emails.

That's all you have to do to stop leaving No-Reply Comments!

Now, if you are wondering how I get comments delivered to my email account just follow these easy steps:

Go to your Dashboard. Click on 'Settings' then 'Comments'.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter your email address. You can enter up to ten email addresses so you can enter your 'commenting email address' as well as your main email.

While you are on this page would you go ahead and check 'No' for 'Show Word Verification for Comments'?

I promise you will get way more comments if you get rid of word verification. There have been many times when I have commented on a blog then gone to a new page without realizing that the previous page was still waiting for me to verify a word. I've had this blog for over a year without word verification and I have only gotten one spam comment. Besides, since you are now getting comment notifications you can immediately go and delete any spam comments you receive.

With the click of a few buttons you will now: receive more comments, get notified every time someone comments on your blog, be able to respond to those comments directly, and get responses to comments you leave! Sweet, huh?

  10. Just a question for you - I show up as a no reply blogger, but from what I understand it is because I am on a wordpress site. Any way around that? I sometimes leave my email addy in with my comment but then I feel like I am "requesting" a response.

  11. Thank you so much for this info! I have just started my blog recently and any advice I can find is great! I was also struggling with trying to reply without just commenting below. I wish I could reply directly on their comment like I see on some blogs. Great tutorial, thanks again!
