Pinching Pennies

As you may recall, I mentioned in my post "Hello, My Name Is 'Mom'" that my husband and I have been thinking a lot about the future. Well, we have made some decisions and the biggest is that we would like to move back to our home state of Illinois. That's right - the land of corn and soy beans.

Okay so I don't really miss that part about it. I really prefer the trees and hills of Minnesota. However, I do miss my family and old friends (who may as well be family). We aren't sure if it will actually happen because it depends on the growth of the company that my husband works for and how quickly a position opens up at the home office. But we are preparing to move two years from now (the earliest that we can put our house on the market due to the home buyer's tax credit). It may not happen that soon but we would like to be ready to move as soon as the opportunity comes up.

So...we have made a goal to be completely debt free with a significant amount in savings...two years from now. That way we won't freak out if the house takes a little while to sell. What this means for the blog is that there will be even more frugal craft and decorating projects as well as occasional tips for saving money. Posts that fall into one of those categories will have this picture somewhere in the post:

I was also considering starting a linky party where people can share inexpensive projects or activities as well as ways that they have found to cut costs. I can't decide though. My blog is still pretty small and it stinks when you have a party and no one shows up. So if I have a frugal link party, would you come?

  1. I'll be closely watching your series and I might have a few projects to link up to your party as well.

  3. So as much as I look forward to us being debt free, the musician side of me cringes at the lack of new gear and toys that this will create ;-) For those of you that may doubt my wifes resolve and or ability to actually get us out of debt, this isn't the first time that she has done it. You may be asking why are we back into debt, well I point you in the direction of the current state of our economy and the new house (yes the same one that we are already looking forward to selling lol). So Goodbye (for now) new shiny toys and hello old beat up ones that are found for pennies that I have to find creative ways to polish! Before anyone thinks that I am playing the role of the unwilling husband when it comes to the pinching of our pennies, I am not. I am fully behind this new adventure and love finding ways to make cheap things worth more, for less. Who knows, maybe I will even find something worthy of this wonderful blog my lovely wife has created. Megan I love you more than any "shiny" things and I look forward to many many years of adventures together.
